Barbara Moon Batista

Photography has been a driving force in my life from a very early age. I have been fortunate enough to live and work on the Monterey Peninsula for most of my adult life. The photographic community and my mentors have contributed to the shaping of my work and ultimately my style. Ironically, I am not a traditional nature photographer but influenced more by the transformative beauty of the aging process both in nature and the gestalt of the human experience.  It is a great privilege to have worked as a commercial photographer with my spouse and partner Fernando Batista. However, my greatest joy is the transformative experience of teaching. Art in any form, makes the human experience so much richer. Photography has enriched my life immeasurably . My hope is that I can share that experience with you through the medium of photography.

Fernando Batista

My process for doing photography is very simple.

Very Zen-like.

When I engage in taking a photograph, be it in my studio or out in nature, I mainly look for light, color, and composition. These three elements are extremely important to me for a successful and artistic outcome.

At times, it comes easily to me when I am in tune with my surroundings and my inner creative self.

Other times, I am not present, and it becomes very difficult to create.

For this exhibit, "The Old West," I picked three photographs from a series of images that I had taken at the Mission San Antonio during a full moon night.

The moment I took these photos, I was transported back in time to the early days of the mission.

I was present and almost could hear voices coming from the other side.

The light from the moon striking the adobe walls was mesmerizing and had a magical feel.

Terrence Farrell

For a career, I am a classical guitarist.  I have had the great fortune and luck to play on every continent except one and in every state except two!  As a lifelong student of the arts I have a deep and abiding appreciation and affection for the visual arts and especially photography.  Ever since my brother gave me a fixed mount Yashika camera while at university I have never stopped taking pictures.   Along the way I met and married my wife whose father was a commercial photographer with deep roots in the arts.  From there, photography for me has blossomed into a much more dedicated pursuit.  With the advent of the digital camera I found himself at a loss of how to use its many features.  Before, there was little on the camera to adjust.  You had your speed set by the film and then little more to set on your camera except exposure….and of course….what to take a picture of.  That lead me to more training and a life changing lecture by the famed photographer John Sexton.   After seeing how Ansel Adam edited his image of Moonrise over Hernandez New Mexico, I’ve been compelled to a much deeper pursuit of the art of the camera.  For those I’ve been rewarded by being selected for several Internationally juried shows, have seventeen images displayed at the Cypress Inn and have sold my images and note cards nation-wide. Except in the few cases when I print on canvass,  I edit and print my own images.
