Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,
After 33 beautiful years in our cherished rental home, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Our journey here has been filled with countless memories. But now, circumstances beyond our control necessitate a significant change in our lives. The landlord has passed away and the house will be sold.
For three decades, this house has been more than just a structure; it's been the center of our lives, work and community. It's where we celebrated birthdays, holidays, and milestones. It's where we weathered storms and found solace in each other's embrace. However, as much as we've loved and nurtured this place, the passage of time has brought inevitable challenges.
The decision to leave behind our home was not ours to make. However, we're excited about the new possibilities that lie ahead. A smaller, more accessible space will allow us to focus on our health and spend quality time with loved ones. However, transitioning after so many years presents its own set of financial hurdles.

Out of the Area? We can give a lesson on a remote software, Zoom (it is a free download). We share a screen with you on Zoom and we can see your desktop and begin answering your questions. Really magical when you think about it.

How Do You Learn? Did you Know there are Learning Styles? What is your Learning Style?
Perhaps the most simple way of describing 'learning styles' is to say that they are different methods of learning or understanding new information, the way a person takes in, understand, expresses and remembers information. There are 4 predominant learning styles: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic.
There are 7 categories of Learning Styles:
Visual (spatial):You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.
Aural (auditory-musical): You prefer using sound and music.
Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
Physical (kinesthetic): You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch.
Logical (mathematical): You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems.
Social (interpersonal): You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.
Solitary (intrapersonal): You prefer to work alone and use self-study.
The term "active learning" is often used to describe an interactive process, such as doing a hands-on experiment to learn a concept rather than reading about it. But "passive learning" (reading a text, listening to a lecture, watching a movie) is still learning, and can be effective.
I am a photography teacher of difficult concepts to “learn”. I believe that by providing the “content”of the lesson in as many ways as possible the student increases their chances of “learning” the concept and then remembering it in practical application.
Photographers are most often visual learners and prefer to work alone and use self study. This is not a hard and fast rule but in practical environments like the classroom I see it more often then with people who like to learn in a social environment (classroom).
Solution?
Provide as many options for learning photography and editing software as possible in the classroom or individual tutoirng. My teaching methods include visuals in the form of images to work with for the visual learners; Powerpoint slides and lectures provide words and sound for the auditory learners; exercise/assignments for those who need to move around and touch in order to learn or apply concepts. This approach has worked very well in the classroom and for individual. It is powerful to combine the tools for a full learning experience.
I use the same methods for tutoring individuals who prefer to work alone but need some sort of guidance and structure to jump start their learning.
The first thing I try to find out about a potential student is their learning “style” through a short series of questions. This helps me provide the necessary tools for the student to learn.

Struggling with the upgrades Adobe has added in the past few months?
The biggest ones have been in the Develop Module with the addition of brush masking tools, sky replacement etc. . It has made Lightroom Classic a much more robust program but also created a learning curve for many of us.
I am offering an evening Lightroom Classic Refresher course every 2 weeks on Thursday from 6-9 beginning on October 5, 2023 at the studio for 4 classes 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, 12/14 ). Fee is $299. Registration begins NOW. There are only 3 seats available. Bring your own computer or laptop with Lightroom installed.
This is not a course for beginners but a refresher for those who have been using Lightroom and want to Improve their skills.
We will start with a review of the Import process and try to trouble shoot any issues you might be having with how your library is set up. I will not be addressing catalog issues in this course.
We will then review the Develop Module and the new masking tools introduced in the new version of Lightroom Classic 11 & 12. You may have upgraded to Lightroom 11 or 12 for the new features and bug fixes. The assumption is that you have upgraded to the Lightroom Classic 11. If you have decided to stay with the older version of Lightroom Classic 10.4 or earlier, you can still benefit from this refresher course.

Learn to use the NEW brush and masking tools, review the best ways to manage and import your images with the Import Module and edit your images in the Develop Module. Requirement: basic knowledge of Lightroom Classic and navigating your computer.
